Care receiver: using your daily board

Version 1.0.0 · Clear instructions for an iPad or iPhone used as a day-to-day display

ListMyDay shows what is happening today. You can read appointments, visits, important notes, birthdays, and things to do. Your caregiver enters and changes the information on their device. You do not need to type events or maintain a calendar.

Already seeing the daily board? Start with Read the board and Mark a task Done. The setup steps are only for a new or disconnected device.

1. Connect your iPad or iPhone once

Someone who manages your household should help with this first setup.

  1. Open ListMyDay. Tap Set up as care receiver.
  2. Ask your caregiver to open the caregiver app and choose Allow a new display for 10 minutes in Pending approvals.
  3. On your device, enter the Pairing code they give you into the box labeled ABCD-EFGH. Tap Connect display.
  4. A large Verification code appears on your screen. Show that six-digit number to your caregiver. They compare it with the request on their screen and tap Approve.
  5. Wait for ListMyDay to connect. You can tap Check approval if needed. The daily board opens after approval.

The pairing code and verification code are two different codes. A pairing code alone does not give access. Never enter the household recovery key into the normal receiver connection screen. If your request expires, ask the caregiver for a fresh code.

2. Read your daily board

The large date at the top tells you what day it is. Below it you may see PAST DUE, TODAY, and TOMORROW. These sections appear based on the information your caregiver has published.

Example of what the screen could say

SATURDAY · OCTOBER 31

TODAY
Video appointment — 2:00 PM
Put the recycling outside — Done today
Alex is visiting

TOMORROW
Water the plants

🎁 Birthdays tomorrow
Taylor

This is an illustrative example, not your household's actual schedule.

3. What kinds of information can appear?

Your caregiver decides which information is published. If a title is confusing or missing, ask the caregiver to edit it on their device.

4. Mark a task Done

  1. Find a To do task under TODAY.
  2. After you have done that task, tap Done today.
  3. That date's occurrence is recorded as completed. If it is a repeating task, it can still appear on another scheduled day.

Example: If Water the plants repeats every day, completing it today does not complete tomorrow's watering. You cannot mark a tomorrow-preview task Done early.

Only tap Done for an activity you actually completed. This action is a record of what you tapped; ListMyDay cannot independently check whether an activity happened.

5. What does PAST DUE mean?

When enabled, PAST DUE lists unfinished action tasks originally scheduled for one of the previous 1–7 days. The caregiver selects how far back to look, or can turn it off.

  1. Look at the date printed above each past-due task. For example, it might say October 30.
  2. If you completed that specific occurrence, tap Done next to it.
  3. Only that original date is completed. Today and future occurrences remain separate.

Past-due birthdays, visits, important notes, and appointments do not appear here. Ask your caregiver if a task has the wrong date or should not appear.

6. How birthdays work

A caregiver adds names and dates in a separate caregiver Birthdays list. Each published birthday returns every year. The receiver shows Birthdays today or Birthdays tomorrow in the corresponding day, without consuming the slots for tasks and appointments.

  1. When one to three people have a birthday, their names appear together under the gift symbol and the heading Birthdays today or Birthdays tomorrow.
  2. When more than three people have a birthday on the same date, tap Show N more birthdays to see all the names. Tap Show fewer birthdays to collapse the list again.
  3. If names or dates are missing, ask the caregiver to edit them in their Birthdays tab.

7. Make your screen easier to read

While the normal daily board is open, press and hold the board for about 2½ seconds to open Display Settings. An adult or caregiver can help with these options.

  1. If Use caregiver display settings is on, the caregiver's shared settings apply when available. You can turn it off if this iPad needs its own layout.
  2. With local settings enabled, choose Board text size from 1 (small) to 5 (extra large). Levels 4 and 5 work well for viewing from farther away, but you might have to scroll.
  3. Try Maximum contrast (white on black) or a different Board background.
  4. Choose whether to Show tomorrow preview and whether to Gently shift static board layout.
  5. Tap Done in the settings sheet to return to the daily board.

Changing these display preferences does not allow the receiver to edit the schedule or become a caregiver. If a visual setting is managed by the caregiver, ask them to change it on the caregiver device.

US holidays: today and tomorrow

When enabled, a line under the date and clock says Today is Christmas Day or names the current US holiday. Under TOMORROW, you may see Tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day. That message appears even if you have no ordinary tasks scheduled tomorrow.

Holidays are information only, so you never need to tap Done or receive alerts about them. Your caregiver can choose common US holidays, all federal holidays, observed weekdays (labeled observed), or turn holiday labels off. The household time zone determines the calendar day.

8. Weather and appointment alerts

The large date and clock are grouped together at the top of the board. When weather is enabled, it appears underneath in its own full-width panel, so larger text does not squeeze the date or time.

The board may display weather for the selected city if weather is enabled and that city is configured. In Display Settings → Weather (optional), an adult can use caregiver settings or turn them off to select a local city and Celsius/Fahrenheit. For clear or partly cloudy conditions, the sun or moon symbol follows daylight in the weather city, which may differ from the time or location of the iPad.

While the display is running and online, ListMyDay checks for updated weather about every 10 minutes. If a reading becomes more than an hour old, the board labels it as older information. Weather is optional context, not a source of emergency alerts.

To allow appointment alerts on the iPad, open Display Settings → Appointment alerts and tap Enable appointment notifications on this iPad. iOS may ask for permission. Your caregiver cannot grant that iOS permission remotely.

Voice/read-aloud features are still undergoing device validation; do not depend on spoken reminders. Weather is not an emergency warning system. Neither weather nor appointment alerts replace contacting a caregiver or emergency services when necessary.

9. When something seems wrong

The display says it is waiting for approval

Ask your caregiver to check the request and compare the separate six-digit verification code. Tap Check approval on your device if necessary. If the code expired, the caregiver must open a fresh pairing window.

I cannot see an appointment or task

Check whether it is meant for today or tomorrow. The caregiver might not have published it yet, or your iPad might be offline. Ask the caregiver to confirm the information rather than changing household settings yourself.

The text is too small or hard to read

Press and hold the board for about 2½ seconds, open Display Settings, then choose a larger size or higher contrast. Or ask your caregiver to change shared display appearance.

The board seems old or disconnected

Check the iPad's internet connection. The bottom of the board may show when it was last updated. An offline device may continue showing an older saved board; it cannot receive recent caregiver corrections until it reconnects.

It says access was revoked or expired

Ask your caregiver to review Authorized displays and renew your access or approve the device again. Do not delete the app or reset the household as a first step.

10. If you accidentally open Device Administration

Tap the large GO BACK! button. It returns immediately to the normal daily board. If nobody continues, the administration screen is designed to return automatically after about 15 seconds.

Device Administration is for the person managing the device. Deliberately opening it requires two separate corner holds—top-left, then bottom-right—and it does not itself grant caregiver permission. Do not enter a recovery key unless you are the authorized person deliberately converting the device to caregiver mode.

11. Privacy and safety

Your device can only show the household information it has permission to receive. A caregiver can choose a Private room display setting that hides personal names and details, including birthdays. If a shared-room screen shows something too personal, ask the caregiver to change the privacy setting.

The care receiver cannot publish, edit, or delete the caregiver's schedule. It can only read approved entries and mark permitted tasks Done. If someone needs medical attention, urgent supervision, or emergency help, do not rely on ListMyDay as an alert system.
